Autologous Fat Grafting

Have you ever thought that the unwanted local fat that exists in some parts of the body can be collected and injected in to other parts in order to perfectly harmonize your silhouette? This is exactly what the Autologous Fat Grafting treatment achieves – a technique of fat transfer to achieve excellent aesthetic correction.

The fat is called autologous because it is collected from a patient’s own body and then transferred into the same patient’s desired body part(s).

Technique

The deposited fat is collected from specific areas, such as the abdomen, thighs, buttocks and knees, with the conventional liposuction technique (with a cannula or syringe). The fat is centrifuged and then placed in a syringe and injected in the desired areas. The syringe needle is very thin, easily penetrates the skin and the treatment is pain-free as the fat is injected at various levels subcutaneously.

Fat grafting is intended to restore a volume deficit of tissue therefore both the appropriate technique as well as the total volume of fat that will be utilized, are issues of great importance.

Fat is most commonly used in breast augmentation, as enlargement is performed without the use of silicone implants; in breast uplift, where fat transfer is complementary to improve the size and shape of the breasts and in the Brazilian Buttocks Lift, which in combination with liposculpture of the waistline and thigh area, achieve the most impressive results in the appearance of the buttocks. Fat can also be used to increase areas such as the calves, etc.

Results

A few months after the procedure, the skin texture and quality show signs of significant improvement, as autologous fat is rich in stem cells and growth factors.

Useful Information

  • It is a safe, reliable and effective treatment.
  • The beneficial effects of fat on tissue regeneration have been demonstrated in several studies, suggesting that stem cells contained in adipose tissue retain the ability to differentiate, causing the formation of new cells and tissues, such as connective tissue, blood vessels, skin, and fat.
  • A big advantage of autologous fat grafting is that it can be transferred throughout the body.
  • Fat transfer is performed either alone or together with other surgeries, cosmetic or reconstructive.
