Chin surgery, also known as genioplasty, aims at reshaping and aesthetically enhancing the chin. It significantly contributes to the improvement in the appearance of the facial profile, as the chin can offer harmonious balance to facial characteristics such as the nose. There are also other factors that may indicate the need for chin surgery, aside from cosmetic reasons, such as pathological conditions or facial trauma.
The surgery is performed with osteotomies or with the use of appropriate silicone implants in the case of a small chin. If your chin is quite large, then a procedure to make a small bone cut across the chin may be necessary.
Complications following chin surgery are rare. Having an infection or vein thrombosis are possible side effects. Even a mistaken choice or unsuccessful placement of the implant can be fixed through its removal and re-placement.
